Meet Aleea Jaques
Aleea Jaques paints figures who feel as though they have stepped out of a story mid-scene, capturing the humor, joviality, awkwardness, and drama of everyday social moments. Using expressive brushwork, vibrant color, distorted forms, and unexpected details such as oversized hats, animals, martinis, and fruit. Jaques creates bold, playful, and sophisticated works that invite viewers to imagine the relationships and stories unfolding within each piece. Inspired by the untamed honesty of a child and the creative mavericks she admires, including Picasso, Matisse, and Nin, Jaques embraces youthful innocence and spontaneity in her work.
